Santo, TX

Coffee Creek Campground - June 12-13

We arrived at Coffee Creek Campground in Santo, TX, around 3:30pm and what a WONDERFUL place it is. It's only three years old, and ALL spots are pull-through which is exactly what we love about a place. We went in to pay and with our discount from Passport America, one night was only $17.50 so it was also a great deal. I was wearing my Newell hat and the lady working the desk actually knew what a Newell was. She told us about a Newell that visits quite often and the owners have Great Danes. Well, what a small world it is!! The couple with the Great Danes was parked next to us the previous day at the Newell factory. I can't tell you how good it makes us feel when an RV place recognizes what a Newell is. They really are quite rare, and many parks just do not understand how huge we really are.

This is the very welcoming entrance at Coffee Creek. We had a scare and thought we might be too tall to get under, but we made it! The campground also has little cabins completely furnished for weekend guests, and I looked in as much as I could. Dad said that Mom would be doing the same thing.
The most amazing cloud and color formation with the sun reflecting off the clouds in the east.

This pictures gives an idea of the size of the lots and how easy it was to maneuver the Newell.

We were escorted to our spot and  pulled in without having to unhook the Jeep. There was not a tree in sight, so we were able to quickly and easily have the satellites working. Which, after all, might have been a bad decision because we watched the Braves get swept by the Yankees---not entertaining to us at all! We really didn't have too good of an idea of where we were, but luckily, Coffee Creek gave us a brochure with places to see within in the area...well, more like within 45 minutes of the area. We were more or less 45 minutes (via car, NOT Newell) south west of Fort Worth. There was a smokehouse, Natty Flats, within 5 minutes of Coffee Creek, so we thought we would try it out for dinner. What a TREAT it was!!! It was such a cool place in the middle of nowhere. It looked newly built yet in a rustic fashion without being cheesy at all. Natty Flats is next door to a huge furniture store that is also home to the World's Largest Rocking Chair...no joke!! The restaurant was just totally delicious, not a chain, and very reasonable.

We knew we had the option of  leaving on Wednesday morning, but Coffee Creek had the most gorgeous pool, so I voted to stay another night so I could have a pool day (very diva of me, but oh well). Dad thought it was a perfectly fine idea because he had some work he wanted to do himself on the Newell. Have I mentioned that the bedroom slide LEAKED all over the floorboard maybe the first/second night of this trip?? If I have, sorry for bringing it up again, but if I haven't...it's always something.

Dad managed to not crush his fingers in the slides while he was working (although, I did manage to get my computer power supply cord crushed by the slide when leaving Newell.....whoopsie) while I spent the day sweating my butt off at the pool....hard life. What else for dinner but the smokehouse again? Another Braves loss, but hopefully a slide that is fixed for the next time it rains!!!!

I have really been on edge for a lot of this trip (mostly the traveling days!!!) what with the size of the Newell, towing something, and having never been to any of the campgrounds before. Dad is really a top notch driver, so my nervousness probably lies in having to trust our Big Rig book and the people I talk to on the phone before we get to a park. Even though we check Google Earth, and spend A LOT of time (like hours) picking out the next place to stay, it's almost always a little bit of a surprise when we arrive. I'm sure with time and experience I'll calm down!!!
